BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College baseball team dropped the first game of its series against Grove City on Thursday afternoon by a score of 15-3. Geneva fell to 5-10 overall, 1-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), while Grove City improved to 10-4, 1-0 in the PAC.
Freshman Alex Tatusko (Independence, Ky./Bishop Brossart) got the start on the mound, and Geneva knew it could not afford to give much up with the Golden Tornadoes facing Grove City ace starting pitcher Tate Ostrowski, one of the top pitchers in the PAC who came into the game with a 1.89 ERA.
Tatusko pitched two scoreless innings before a Geneva error in the top of the third allowed the Wolverines to push across an unearned run.
Grove City blew the game open, though, with four runs in the fourth and eight more runs in the fifth. The Geneva offense managed just two hits against Ostrowski, who pitched the first five innings.
Sophomore Jackson Hall (New Brighton, Pa./New Brighton) got Geneva on the board in the bottom of the eighth with a two-run single against the Wolverine bullpen, with Grove City closing out the game for a 15-3 victory.
Tatusko took the loss with 3.1 innings pitched, giving up six hits and four earned runs. Geneva's offense managed just five hits.
These two teams were scheduled to finish the three-game series on Saturday at Grove City, but due to field conditions at Grove City, the two teams are going to try to get both games in tomorrow on Geneva's campus again, weather permitting. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
