Game Recap: Baseball |

W&J Takes Two from Baseball

WASHINGTON, Pa. – It was a tough day for the Geneva College baseball team on Friday afternoon when the Golden Tornadoes faced a Washington & Jefferson squad who had yet to lose in conference play, and the Presidents controlled both games of the doubleheader in defeating Geneva by scores of 15-6 and 20-1.  Geneva's record is now 8-19 overall, 4-10 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.

W&J broke open the first game with eight runs in the bottom of the second, with two errors early in the inning leading to all eight runs being unearned.

Geneva scored a run in the third, a run in the fifth and four runs in the sixth to account for its offense in game one.  Sophomore David Toruno (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley) and junior Gabriel Morales (Homestead, Fla./South Dade) each had two hits, with Morales and freshman Zack Sackett (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) each driving in two runs.

The second game also got away from the Golden Tornadoes early, with the Presidents jumping out to a 7-0 lead after two innings.  A Morales double drove in Toruno in the third inning for Geneva's only run of the second game, while the Golden Tornado pitching staff never found a way to slow down the W&J offense.

Toruno finished the second game with two of Geneva's four hits.

These two teams finish up the series tomorrow with a 12:00 p.m. contest at W&J.
