WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Geneva College baseball team wrapped up its three-game series with Washington & Jefferson on Saturday afternoon, with the Presidents prevailing 19-5. W&J has now won 15 games in a row, including all 14 games it has played in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). Geneva dropped to 8-19 overall, 4-10 in the PAC.
W&J got its league-leading offense rolling early, scoring at least one run in each of the first five innings. By the time Geneva got a scoreless inning of relief from freshman Derek Sears (Sherman, N.Y./Sherman) in the sixth, the Presidents had opened up a 12-0 lead.
The Golden Tornadoes got on the board in the bottom the seventh on RBI-singles from sophomore David Toruno (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley) and junior Gabriel Morales (Homestead, Fla./South Dade). Toruno drove in two more in the ninth with a single to finish up the scoring.
Toruno led the offense with three hits and three RBIs. Sophomore Tim Hermansen (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) and freshman Connor O'Brien (Swanton, Md./Calvary Christian) each added two hits, with O'Brien scoring twice.
Geneva is scheduled to play Waynesburg on Tuesday for a home doubleheader, weather permitting. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
