Orbin’s Strong Outing Helps Baseball Split with Thiel

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Junior starting pitcher Jarrett Orbin (New Springfield, Ohio/Springfield) delivered another strong performance on Saturday afternoon, helping Geneva split with Thiel in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader.  The Golden Tornadoes won the first game 5-2, while the Tomcats took game two 11-8.  Geneva's record is now 6-14 overall, 2-5 in the PAC.

Orbin got the start in game one, and the offense generated two runs in the bottom of the third, with freshman Zack Sackett (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) picking up an RBI.

Freshman Connor O'Brien (Swanton, Md./Calvary Christian) added an RBI-single in the fourth, and the Golden Tornadoes plated two more runs in the bottom of the sixth on an error and a wild pitch.

Thiel tried to mount a rally in the seventh, scoring twice, but freshman Zack Lemansky (South Park, Pa./South Park) closed out the victory, 5-2.

Orbin pitched 6.0 inning while giving up just three hits and one run, moving his record to 2-1 on the season.  Sophomore Jackson Hall (New Brighton, Pa./New Brighton) led the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 effort, scoring two runs.

Freshman Alex Tatusko (Independence, Ky./Bishop Brossart) got the start in the second game, and the Tomcat offense got their offense working early.  In fact, Thiel scored at least one run in each of the first six innings, and heading into the seventh, the Tomcats led 10-1.

The Geneva offense came to life in the bottom of the seventh again the Tomcat bullpen.  Eight of the first nine batters reached base.  Sackett had an RBI-single, senior Adrian Tapia (Homestead, Fla./Keys Gate Charter) drove in two with a single, while Hall's single added two more runs for the Golden Tornadoes, pulling Geneva within 10-7.

Unfortunately, that was as close as Geneva would get.  Thiel added a run in the eighth, and despite a two-out rally in the ninth that plated one runner, Geneva lost game two 11-8.

Sackett led the offense with three hits.  Hall, O'Brien, senior Dillon Bickerton (Salem, Ohio/Salem) and junior Gabriel Morales (Homestead, Fla./South Dade) each had two hits.  Bickerton, Tapia and Hall each drove in two runs.

Geneva is scheduled to head to Saint Vincent on Monday for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
