NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Geneva sophomore
Carmen Medvit and freshman
Emma Parnell earned individual event victories at the Muskie Pride Meet hosted by Muskingum College on Saturday afternoon. They were two of ten women's track & field student-athletes to score team points for the Golden Tornadoes.
"This was a big day for the team," said Geneva head coach
Phil Thompson. "The first meet back from Christmas break is usually rough, but this team came to compete. It was evident that they had put in some work over the break."
Medvit set a Geneva record in her 1 Mile Run win. Her time of 5:11.12 passes the previous mark of 5:23.52 set by Havilah Gaugler in 2015. Parnell won the women's Triple Jump with a leap of 10.33 meters. She also finished in sixth place in the Long Jump at 4.61 meters.
"We had a lot of great performances and a few first-place finishes," said Thompson. "Carmen destroyed the field in the mile by 30 seconds to break the school record. Emma dropped a bomb in the triple jump to take the win and move to the top of the PAC leaderboard."
Geneva had a second jumper place in the triple jump as freshman
Ellie Bates took fifth place with a leap of 9.47 meters.
Freshman
Allison Standish placed in two field events with a third-place finish in the Shot Put (10.79 meters) and an eighth-place spot in the Weight Throw (12.65 meters).
On the track,
Naomi Swartzbaugh took fourth place in the 60 Meter Hurdles in 10.32, while
Anne Holdeman placed fifth in the 200 Meter Dash (28.57).
Madison Castro (68.47) and
Favour Oladapo (68.67) finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in the 400 Meter Dash.
Alexa Ovalle added to the team scoring with a sixth-place finish in the 800 Meter Run in a time of 2:55.13.
The 4x200 meter relay team of Holdeman, Swartzbaugh, Castro, and
Rachel Blessing placed sixth with a time of 1:56.82.
The Golden Tornadoes return to action on Friday, January 20 at the YSU Collegiate Invitational, the second of three meets Geneva will compete in this indoor season at Youngstown State.
