YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Geneva freshman
Carmen Medvit set two Golden Tornado women's track & field records on Friday evening at the Youngstown State Collegiate Invitational. Today's meet featured a mix of over 30 teams representing NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA from across the region.
Medvit reset her record in the 1 Mile Run with a 5:01.14 for sixth place overall and was the top NCAA Division III runner across the finish line. She knocked 10 seconds off her previous Geneva record of 5:11.12, set last Saturday at Muskingum.
Later in the meet Medvit broke the school record in the 3,000 Meter Run that has stood for 20 years. Medvit ran a 10:05.66 for 4
th place overall, again the top Division III runner in the race. She ran approximately 38 seconds faster than the previous mark of 10:43.32 set by Becky Carter in 2003.
Among other top performers on Friday were the freshmen duo of
Emma Parnell and
Ellie Bates in the triple jump. Parnell placed 15th with a leap of 10.24 meters, while Bates finished 19th, jumping 9.91 meters. Several other Golden Tornadoes were able to set personal bests during the meet.
Geneva will return to YSU next week for the third time this season for the YSU College Mid Major meet on Friday and Saturday, January 27-28.
