MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Geneva College women's track and field team finished in a tie for sixth place, out of 11 teams, at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Outdoor Championships on Friday at West Virginia University. The Golden Tornadoes finished with 39 points. Allegheny won the women's title.
The women brought home two second-place finishes. Freshman Emma Parnell placed second in the triple jump on Thursday with a distance of 10.84 meters, while freshman Carmen Medvit placed second in the 5000-meter race, finishing in a time of 18:18.97.
Medvit also added a fourth-place finish in the 10,000-meter race on Thursday, finishing with a time of 37:54.82. Parnell added an eighth-place finish in the long jump with an effort of 4.76 meters.
Other scores for the women included freshman Alayna Wilkins, who finished fifth in the pole vault by clearing 2.34 meters. Sophomore Madison Castro earned points in the both the 800-meter and 1500-meter races. She placed sixth in the 800-meters with a time of 2:27.76, while she finished eighth in the 1500-meters with a time of 4:59.56. Freshman Hailey Carroll also scored in the 1500-meter race, finishing eighth with a time of 5:01.48.
The women's 4x100-meter relay team of Parnell, seniors Naomi Swartzbaugh and Anne Holdeman, along with sophomore Favour Oladapo, placed sixth with a time of 52.21 seconds. Swartzbaugh added a seventh-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.52 seconds.
A few members of the squad will continue on the National Christian College Athletic Association championships, which will be held at Columbia International in Conway, South Carolina, from May 10 to 12.
