YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Geneva College women's track and field team finished in fifth place at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Indoor Championships on Thursday at Youngstown State, with a trio of sophomores in Hailey Carroll, Emma Parnell and Allison Standish leading the way. Westminster won the title.
Carroll opened her day by winning the mile in a time of 5:03.06, which set a new PAC Championship meet record and was just two seconds off the school record. She then broke the school record in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:16.47, while being narrowly edged out for second place.
Parnell brought home the other first-place finish for the women at the championships, winning the triple jump with an effort of 10.70 meters. She also placed third in the long jump with a distance of 5.09 meters.
Standish broke her own school record in the weight throw by breaking 14 meters, finishing with a toss of 14.07 meters, which placed her third in the event.
Junior Saige Musser had a strong day in the sprints, finishing third in both the 60-meter dash, with a time of 8.03 seconds, and the 200-meter dash, with a time of 26.86 seconds.
In the 400-meter dash, freshman Brooklen Helton placed sixth, with a time of 1:02.88, while junior Favour Oladapo was right behind her in seventh place with a time of 1:03.02.
Other individual placers for Geneva included junior Madison Castro, who earned points in both the 800-meter (2:27.88) and the mile (5:32.62) with eighth-place finishes. Junior Aliyah Hillman earned points with a seventh-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 2.77 meters, while freshman Kaelyn Hartman earned points with an eighth-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 4.73 meters.
In addition, the women's Distance Medley Relay team of Carroll, Madison Castro, freshman Anna Castro and freshman Jordann Hicks placed second with a time of 12:53.01.
Thursday's championship meet wraps up the indoor season for the women. The Geneva track and field teams will head to Myrtle Beach over Spring Break in two weeks and will compete in their first outdoor meet at Coastal Carolina on March 8-9.
