COLUMBIA, S.C. – Sophomore Hailey Carroll broke her own school record in the 800-meter race on Friday on the final day of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Outdoor Championships, highlighting several strong performances by Geneva at the event, hosted at Columbia International University. The meet represents the last competition for Geneva, outside of one or two that may qualify for the NCAA Division III national championships.
Carroll, who already set the record in the 800-meter race earlier this year with a time of 2:16.91, improved on her own record with a time of 2:15.60, which placed her fourth at the competitive event.
Sophomore Carmen Medvit had the highest finish on the women's side, placing second in the 5000-meter race with a time of 18:29.12.
Sophomore Emily Garvin placed fourth in the javelin with a throw of 37.67 meters. Senior Catherine O'Donnell finished seventh in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:32.35. Sophomore Emma Parnell also brought home a top ten finish by placing eighth in the triple jump with an effort of 10.49 meters.
On the men's side, sophomore Karter Reath was Geneva's highest finisher, placing second in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:39.87.
Graduate student Jack Garvin had another strong day in the high jump as he wrapped up his standout season, placing third by clearing 1.96 meters. Garvin also placed sixth in the javelin with a throw of 48.73 meters. Senior Jackson Thomas added a tenth-place finish in the javelin with a toss of 44.78 meters.
Senior Noah Foust had a strong day in the throws. He placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 41.53 meters, while he added a seventh-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 14.05 meters.
Sophomore Tommy Corbin placed sixth in the 5000-meter race with a time of 16:07.64. Junior Brian Cline placed tenth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.79 seconds.
The men's 4x100m relay team, consisting of Garvin, senior Josh Blessing and juniors Desmond Lewis and Gabe Trexler, placed seventh with a time 43.29 seconds.
Geneva had several athletes just miss top-ten finishes, placing 11th, including freshman Daphne Alexander in the high jump, junior Timothy Ehko in the javelin, sophomore Benjamin Perka in the 1500-meter race and freshman Evan Groce in the 800-meter race.
