Strong Performances Highlight Opening Meet of Second Semester at Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Geneva College men's and women's track and field teams opened their second semester at Muskingum on Saturday, and graduate student Jack Garvin and junior Carmen Medvit highlighted the day with first place finishes, while junior Allison Standish broke her own school record in the weight throw.  The meet had 12 schools at the event, including multiple NCAA Division II schools.

Garvin won the high jump by clearing 1.95 meters, while also finishing eighth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.18 seconds.  Senior Desmond Lewis wasn't far behind Garvin in the 60-meter dash, finishing in tenth with a time of 7.19 seconds.  Lewis also had a strong performance in the 200-meter dash, placing fifth with a time of 23.29 seconds.

The men had a strong day in mile.  Freshman Nate Gray placed fourth with a time of 4:37.58.  Junior Eli Eisenberger was sixth with a time of 4:40.67.  Junior Tommy Corbin was right behind in seventh place with a time of 4:41.82, while freshman Ethan Haring placed ninth with a time of 4:42.56.

Geneva also had a strong performance in the 800-meter race.  Sophomore Evan Groce placed second with a time of 2:04.24.  Gray placed fifth with a time of 2:07.39, freshman Trevor Nasso placed seventh in a time of 2:08.83, and Corbin was right behind in ninth place with a time of 2:09.98.

In the jumps, junior Seth Tyson had a good day in the triple jump, placing eighth with a jump of 11.55 meters.

Medvit led the way on the women's side, winning the mile with a time of 5:19.34.  Freshman Sara Vos ran a good time in the 60-meter dash, finishing ninth in a time of 8.29 seconds.

In the throws, Standish added to her own school record in the weight throw by tossing 14.33 meters, good for third place at the event.  Freshman Emma Thellman added a tenth-place finish in the pole vault by clearing 2.59 meters.

In the jumps, freshman Olivia Seetoo placed fifth in the high jump by clearing 1.50 meters, while sophomore Daphne Alexander was ninth in the high jump by clearing 1.45 meters.  In addition to those two, sophomore Kaelyn Hartman placed seventh in the long jump with an effort of 4.78 meters.

Both teams will return to Muskingum next Saturday for another meet for their next competition.
