Men’s Tennis Defeats Westminster on the Road

Box Score NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Geneva men's tennis program secured a non-conference victory over Westminster Thursday afternoon, defeating the Titans 5-2 in their second match of the fall season. It is the first win of the year for the GTs, who move to 1-1 overall following their final scheduled match of the fall semester.

The men started off on the right foot in doubles play, getting victories in all three flights. Senior Braiden Smalley and sophomore Ben Busler swept their competition in the top position, 6-0, while juniors Owen Landis and Thayne Bodenmiller needed to play an extra point to win their match in No. 2 doubles, 7-5. Two freshmen, Joseph Kenneally and Luke Crawford, played in the No. 3 doubles spot, winning their match 6-4.

Smalley continued his strong play with a 6-1, 6-0 victory in No. 1 singles. Busler played well too, beating Westminster's No. 2, 6-3, 6-2. Bodenmiller and freshman Evan Hancock nabbed the last two points of the match for Geneva, with Bodenmiller taking the No. 4 singles match 6-4, 7-5, and Hancock taking the sixth flight match 6-3, 6-4. Landis put together an admirable performance in No. 3 singles as well, going the distance with his opponent before falling in three sets.
