BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The honors continue to roll in each week for junior quarterback Caleb Romano. Just hours after being named the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) SAAC Male Scholar-Athlete for September, Romano was named the PAC Football Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon, the third time this season he has earned the award.
Romano was the catalyst for another offensive explosion on Saturday when the Golden Tornadoes defeated Waynesburg 62-20, the most points scored by Geneva since 2001. Romano finished the game completing 27-of-47 passes for 373 yards and four touchdowns, without an interception. He also added an 18-yard touchdown run. He accomplished those totals in just a little over three quarters, sitting out most of the fourth quarter while Geneva held a big lead.
Romano has now passed for at least 335 yards in five straight games and is up to 2,466 yards passing on the season, tops in NCAA Division III. He's on pace to break the Geneva single season record of 3,125 yards set by Justin Myers in 1997. His 23 passing touchdowns are tied for the most in Division III, and his additional five rushing touchdowns give him the most touchdowns by any player in Division III this season.
Geneva is now 4-1 in PAC play after the win over Waynesburg, its best start to conference play since joining the PAC in 2011. The Golden Tornadoes will try to continue their hot streak this Saturday when they host Bethany on Homecoming, starting at 3:00 p.m.
