Garcia Named Newcomer of the Week

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Freshman guard Kassandra Garcia earned the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Newcomer of the Week award Monday afternoon, the first weekly award of her young career. The recognition comes after the Geneva women's basketball team traveled to Cincinnati to play in the Lauren Hill Tip-Off Classic this past weekend, taking on Trine and the hosts, Mount St. Joseph.

Across the women's two games last week, Garcia averaged 10.0 points on 7-of-17 shooting (41.1%) off the bench, including a 6-of-15 (40%) effort from three-point range. Versus Trine on Friday, she recorded 12 points, nailing four three-pointers, while also registering a rebound and a steal. She followed up that performance by scoring eight points against Mount St. Joseph the next day, notching another two made treys and a rebound as well in just eight minutes of game action. She has quickly made her mark as one of head coach Michael Grinder's top scoring options off the bench.

The Golden Tornadoes are scheduled to play just once this week, a road game at Mount Union on Tuesday, November 25th, at 7:00 p.m. They will return to action next week after Thanksgiving break with two PAC contests against Grove City and Allegheny.
