BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Senior Emily Garvin continues to rack up weekly awards during her standout season, and on Monday she earned her fourth Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor for her performances in two wins last week as the Golden Tornadoes clinched a spot in the PAC Playoffs. No other player in the conference has won the award more than twice.
Garvin began the week with a big performance in a win at Hiram that clinched a spot in the postseason. After a slow start to the game, she scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to enable the women to come from behind and pull out a key victory. She finished the game with 18 points, a career high 21 rebounds, 8 assists and 6 steals.
On Saturday on Geneva's Senior Day against rival Westminster, she again came up huge down the stretch to allow the women to hold off a late rally by the Titans. After Westminster cut a 15-point deficit down to three entering the fourth quarter, Garvin scored the first five Geneva buckets of the final quarter to keep the Golden Tornadoes ahead, and she clinched the game with two free throws late. She finished the game with 22 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and 3 steals.
For the week she averaged 20.0 points, 14.5 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 4.5 steals. She is currently first in steals (2.8 spg), second in scoring (17.8 ppg), third in assists (5.3 apg), sixth in both FG% (46.3%) and FT% (71.9%) and seventh in rebounds (8.2 rpg) among PAC players.
The women begin the playoffs on Tuesday night at the No. 2 seed from the South Division, W&J.
