BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Senior guard
Jonathan Bertovich continued his torrid stretch of play this past week and was rewarded by the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) on Monday afternoon, being named the PAC men's basketball Player of the Week. It is the first weekly award of Bertovich's career, and a fitting recognition given he is in the midst of the best two-week stretch he has had since joining the Golden Tornadoes in 2022.
Bertovich led the GTs to consecutive wins over PAC opponents last week, helping the men knock off Grove City on the road Wednesday night, 64-52, before highlighting Geneva's 83-80 victory over Allegheny on Saturday. Across those two games, he averaged 19.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals, shooting an impressive 6-of-12 from three-point range. In the win at Grove City, he recorded 17 points, four rebounds, and two steals, knocking down two three-pointers, before dropping 22 points on 4-of-7 three-point shooting in the victory over Allegheny. He also contributed four assists, three rebounds and a steal in Geneva's win over the Gators.
Over the past five games, Bertovich is averaging 23.8 points per game and has scored at least 22 points in four of those five contests. After starting off the year slowly, he has become one of the top scorers in the PAC in the first semester of the season, leading the conference in three-point percentage (46.5%) and three-pointers made per game (3.7). His percentage mark is 24
th in all of NCAA Division III, and he is also making the fifth-most treys of any player in Division III.
Bertovich and the rest of the Golden Tornadoes have a long break before their next contest, as they will not play again until after Christmas. Following the holiday, they travel to Ohio to participate in the Wooster Kiwanis Classic, hosted by The College of Wooster. Geneva's first game of the Classic will be against the hosts on December 29
th, with tip-off scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
