WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The Geneva College men's and women's track and field teams headed to West Liberty this weekend to participate in the West Liberty Tim Weaver Invitational, with the Golden Tornadoes enjoying much better weather to compete in than the prior week at West Virginia. A total of 23 schools and clubs competed at the event, including several Division II teams.
Junior Allison Standish was a highlight once again for the teams as she again broke her own hammer throw record, this time throwing 44.23 meters, the second straight week she has increased her school record distance. That placed her sixth at the competitive event.
Geneva managed three third-place finishes at the meet. Junior Carmen Medvit placed third in the 1500-meters with a time of 4:49.40. Graduate student Jack Garvin placed third in the high jump, clearing 1.88 meters. He also placed seventh in the 100-meters with a time of 11.39 seconds. Rounding out the trio was junior Karter Reath, who placed third in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:43.54.
Both the men and women also had several top ten finishes. For the women, freshman Olivia Seetoo placed sixth in the high jump, clearing 1.47 meters. Sophomore Katelyn Mathews cleared 1.42 meters, placing her eighth, and sophomore Daphne Alexander and freshman Emma Thellman both cleared 1.37 meters to tie for ninth. Alexander also placed well in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing sixth with a time of 18.09 seconds.
Freshman Sara Vos ran very well in the 400-meters, finishing eighth with a personal best time of 1:02. Sophomore Kaelyn Hartman also posted a personal best in the long jump, placing ninth with a distance of 5.01 meters. In addition, Geneva's 4x400m relay team of Vos, seniors Rachel Blessing and Favour Oladapo, and junior Rowan Dennis placed third with a time of 4:25.70.
On the men's side, Geneva did well in the 5000-meter race as juniors Tommy Corbin and Eli Eisenberger finished fourth and fifth in the race with times of 15:59.68 and 16:08.47, respectively. Freshman Ethan Haring wasn't too far behind that duo, placing seventh with a time of 16:17.87
Additionally for the men, senior Jackson Thomas placed fifth in the javelin with a toss of 44.38 meters. Senior Desmond Lewis finished fifth in the 200-meters with a time of 22.21 seconds. Freshman Isaac Butler placed ninth in the pole vault, clearing 3.60 meters, while freshman Nathaniel Smith placed ninth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.96.
The men's 4x400m relay team of Lewis, junior Alec McCready, sophomore James Paranish and freshman Isaiah Etheridge placed fifth with a time of 3:34.33.
The teams will be back in action next weekend at the two-day Slippery Rock Dave Labor Invitational, beginning on Friday and concluding on Saturday.
