BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College men's soccer team opened its season on Friday afternoon in the first round of the Nate Ferraco Classic, getting a hat trick from sophomore Luke Main in defeating Point Park 5-1 in an exhibition match with the Pioneers.
Main opened the scoring in the 16th minute when he scored off a cross from freshman Travis Miller.
Point Park answered back five minutes later, against the run of play, with a goal that just snuck inside the far point.
Miller responded for Geneva five minutes later, though, scoring from the edge of the box to give the Golden Tornadoes a 2-1 lead going into the break. Geneva outshot Point Park 14-2 in the first half.
Senior Gabe Singh increased the lead three minutes into the second half off an assist from Jeremy Thompson when his shot across the goal hit off the inside of the far post and went in.
Main closed out the scoring with goals in the 66th and 76th minutes, the last goal off an assist from junior Ojha Ojha, to finish off the 5-1 victory.
Geneva finished with a commanding 23-5 edge in shots, including 10-2 in shots on goal. Freshmen goalkeepers Ian Lewis and Case Seymour each spent a half in goal for the Golden Tornadoes.
Geneva squares off with Eastern Mennonite tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. on the final day of the Nate Ferraco Classic.
