BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Freshman
Noah Buchanan got the nod as the starting goalkeeper for the Geneva men's soccer team in the Golden Tornadoes' match against Muskingum this past Saturday, and his performance did not disappoint, earning him his first collegiate award Monday afternoon. The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) named Buchanan its Newcomer of the Week for men's soccer, a well-deserved recognition for a freshman who has fought his way into the starting lineup entering PAC play.
Saturday's match with Muskingum was the first start of Buchanan's collegiate career, and he made the most of his opportunity. After the Golden Tornadoes took a one goal lead early on, he made several saves over the course of the match to preserve their advantage, including one quick-reflex save right before the half ended on a close Muskie shot attempt. Buchanan finished the game with seven saves, picking up his first career shutout in the 1-0 victory.
After climbing his way up the depth chart since the preseason, Buchanan will likely be the starting goalkeeper for the GTs as they enter PAC play. That begins this Wednesday, with Washington and Jefferson coming to Reeves Field for 7:00 p.m. match.
