BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Following his excellent debut week as the starting goalkeeper for the Geneva men's soccer team, freshman
Noah Buchanan put together two more strong performances this past week to help Geneva to a 2-0 start in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play. The PAC recognized him for his efforts by naming him the PAC men's soccer Newcomer of the Week. It is the second consecutive week that Buchanan has received the award.
After recording a clean sheet in his first-ever collegiate start two Saturdays ago, Buchanan made it two consecutive shutouts with a perfect performance in Geneva's 1-0 victory over W&J on Wednesday night. On a day where the GTs' entire defensive unit was at the top of their game, Buchanan only had to face two shots, and just one on goal, making one save. In the Golden Tornadoes' 3-1 win at Westminster on Saturday, Buchanan saw his shutout run come to an end, but he also made five saves on eight shots faced, allowing just one goal in the victory. His confident play has the men rolling to start their conference schedule, with all three of the team's wins coming after Buchanan took over in net.
Buchanan and the rest of the GTs will face two difficult tests this week, with a home match against Grove City at 7:00 p.m. this Wednesday, October 1
st, followed by another home tilt on Saturday with Allegheny. Both teams made the PAC playoffs last season, with Grove City eliminating Geneva in the semifinal round.
