Carroll Sets Another Record at Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. / YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Senior Hailey Carroll set another school record for the third straight week, almost winning the 3000-meter race at Penn State on Saturday afternoon.  Carroll and senior Carmen Medvit competed at the Penn State National Open, while the rest of the Geneva College track and field teams competed at the Youngstown State Mid-Major Invitational that consisted of almost 60 schools and track clubs, including several Division I and Division II schools.

Carroll placed second overall in the 3000-meter race, finishing just .1 second behind the first-place finisher with a school record time of 9:48.21, competing against primarily Division I runners.  Medvit also ran in the race, finishing with a time of 10:21.17.

At the Youngstown State meet, sophomore Abe Konneh had another impressive day in the sprints, finishing fifth overall in the 60-meters with a time of 6.93 seconds, just .02 seconds off the school record.  Freshman Karim Ouardirhi just missed out qualifying for the finals of the 60-meters, placing ninth in the prelims with a time of 7.17 seconds.  Freshman Judah Abram added a time of 7.22 in the 60-meters.

Konneh also placed fourth overall in the 200-meters with a time of 22.20 seconds, and he ran a great opening leg on the 4x400-meter team that finished fourth overall with a time of 3:25.65, the fastest time in the conference this season.  Joining Konneh on the relay team were freshmen Tyler Boyle and Titus Mathews, along with senior Seth Tyson.

Mathews ran well again in the open 400-meter race, finishing with a time of 50.27 seconds, while Boyle finished with a time of 51.32 and freshman Ryan Kosydar a time of 51.95 seconds.

Graduate student Jack Garvin placed eighth in the high jump, clearing 1.84 meters, along with running a time of 7.29 seconds in the 60-meters.  Sophomore Ethan Haring placed 11th in the 5000-meters with a time of 15:23.05, while senior Eli Eisenberger ran a time of 8:54.02 in the 3000-meters, with sophomore Matt Otto (8:54.83) and senior Tommy Corbin (8:56.31) right behind.
