Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. – It was a long night for the Geneva women's volleyball team on Friday as they fell in three sets to Chatham University (15-25, 17-25, 8-25). The women never found their stride over the course of the match, and their record slips to 7-12 overall following the loss.
The Cougars committed a service error on the opening point of the game, and freshman
Chloe Borisuk served an ace on the following point to give the women a 2-0 edge to start set one. Unfortunately, that was the largest lead the GTs would have for the rest of the match, as Chatham came right back and stormed ahead 10-4. The Golden Tornadoes could not pull much closer than that for the remainder of the set, dropping it 25-15.
Chatham then jumped in front 9-3 to open the second set, but Geneva rallied, pulling within three points at one instance, 17-14. The hosts scored eight of the final 11 points to win the set, and they carried that momentum into the third frame as well, taking it 25-8.
Senior
Daphne Alexander registered five kills for the women in what was a rough day attacking-wise for the team. Freshman
Kyla Kephart notched a team-high nine assists, and sophomore
Ruthie Land led the way defensively with nine digs.
Geneva is on the road twice next week, heading to Hiram for a 7:00 p.m. match on Wednesday, October 14, before traveling to Washington & Jefferson the following Saturday.
