Carroll and Konneh Break Records Again in Busy Weekend for Track and Field

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Senior Hailey Carroll and sophomore Abe Konneh improved upon their own school records on Friday afternoon at the Penn State Tune-Up, Carroll breaking her own mile record and Konneh his own 60-meter record twice.  The performances highlighted a busy day for the Geneva College track and field team that was spread out at three different locations on Friday, with another group scheduled to compete at a different meet on Saturday.

In total, the track and field team was split into four groups this weekend.  Carroll and Konneh were the lone Golden Tornadoes competing at Penn State on Friday, while the throwers were at a meet at Mount Union and the pole vaulters competed at Westminster.  A group of runners will be competing at the WGH PAC Tune-up at Warren G. Harding High School on Saturday, while several other Golden Tornadoes actually took the weekend off while preparing for the Indoor PAC Championship meet next Thursday.

Konneh won his heat in the preliminaries with a time of 6.89 seconds, narrowly besting his time from last weekend at Spire of 6.90 seconds.  That was the fifth fastest time in the preliminaries, which qualified him for the finals of the race an hour later.  In the finals, he broke the record a second time, finishing with a time of 6.85 seconds.

In between Konneh's races, Carroll ran the mile race, finishing with a time of 4:53.87, almost three seconds faster than her prior record.  That time is currently in the top 15 in Division III and was just narrowly behind four Division I runners in the race.

Among the other Golden Tornadoes in competition on Friday, senior Allison Standish stood out with a strong throwing performance at Mount Union.  She won the shot put with a toss of 11.65 meters, while she finished third in the weight throw with an effort of 14.11 meters.

After tomorrow's meet at the WGH PAC Tune-Up for a select number of Golden Tornadoes, Geneva will turn its full focus to the Indoor PAC Championships scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at Youngstown State.
