Track and Field Wraps up Standout Weekend with More School Records

WARREN, Ohio – A day after part of the Geneva College men's and women's track and field team split into groups at three different meets and broke multiple school records, a fourth group of Golden Tornadoes carried that strong performance into the WGH PAC Tune-Up meet at Warren G. Harding High School on Saturday.  Junior Daphne Alexander broke her own record she set last week in the high jump, while junior Isaac Nirella broke the indoor record in the pole vault.

Alexander cleared 1.61 meters in the high jump, good for second place.  Junior Katelyn Mathews set a personal record in the high jump by clearing 1.53 meters, while sophomore Olivia Seetoo also cleared 1.53 meters.

Nirella cleared a height of 4.30 meters in the pole vault, breaking a record set in 2019 by Raymond Hagg.

Graduate student Jack Garvin set personal records in the long jump, 6.64 meters, and the triple jump, 12.65, which are both among the top jumps in the PAC this season.  He also cleared a season-best 1.95 meters in the high jump as he anticipates an active day the Indoor PAC Championships next week.

Freshman Corban Hunter had a strong day in the throws.  A day after he competed at Mount Union and posted a personal best of 12.95 meters, he added a toss of 12.69 meters on Saturday.

Freshman Andrew Potter ran well in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 9.08 seconds, fifth fastest in the PAC this season.

The team had several other first place finishers.  Senior Lia Vastano won the 5000-meters (20:45.98), sophomore Ayva Fetterolf won the 3000-meters (13:01.04), sophomore Matt Otto won the mile (4:38.02), and senior Seth Tyson won the 400-meters (52.48 seconds).

Both the men and women appear to be performing at their highest levels of the indoor season as the squad will take part in the Indoor PAC Championships on Thursday at Youngstown State.  The first event begins at 10:30 a.m.
