BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – It was a strong start to the season for the Geneva men's cross country team on Friday when the Golden Tornadoes won the Westminster Fisher Invite, and one of the key runners for Geneva was freshman Tyler Caron. On Tuesday, Caron was honored with the season's first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Men's Newcomer of the Week honor in recognition of his performance at Westminster.
The Geneva College men's cross country team is coming off its first PAC Championship in program history, and despite some losses to last year's team due to graduation, the men look to be in great shape to challenge for a second PAC Championship. Caron is one of the newcomers on the roster that has stepped into the role of some of the graduated seniors, and he ran a great race on Friday, finishing the 5K race in a time of 16:44, which placed him fifth overall out of the 75 runners that competed. In fact, Geneva had four of the top six finishers at the event.
Both the men's and women's cross country teams will head to Dickinson this weekend to take part in the Dickinson Long-Short Invitational, starting at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
