GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Geneva College women's volleyball team is coming off its best stretch of the season over the past ten days, and on Monday the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) named junior Maggie Townsend (Beaver Falls, Pa./Beaver County Christian) the PAC Women's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week.
Townsend has been a key part of Geneva's recent three-game winning streak. Without a senior on this year's roster, Townsend has taken over a leadership role on this young squad, playing multiple positions so far this season. Most recently she has slid into the libero position, which she occupied in both of Geneva's PAC victories last week.
The highlight of the week for Townsend was her performance in Geneva's 3-1 victory over Franciscan on Saturday when she finished 32 digs and four aces. For the week she contributed with 43 digs, 10 assists and nine aces in Geneva's two wins. She now has 335 digs this year, second in the PAC. Her 31 aces are tied for most in the PAC.
The women's team had it matches this week postponed due to COVID protocols, so Townsend and the Golden Tornadoes hope to be able to return to action next week with a road match at Waynesburg on Tuesday, October 12, at 7:00 p.m.
