LOUISVILLE, Ky. – On Monday afternoon the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) released its All-American softball awards for NCAA Division III, and junior Sarah Johnson (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) was named a Second Team All-American, the first Geneva softball player to be recognized as an All-American by the NFCA.
Johnson put together a season worthy of First Team All-American honors after leading the NCAA Division III with 74 hits, including eight doubles, five triples and two home runs. Those 74 hits broke the single-season Geneva record. Johnson also finished with a .510 batting average, also breaking the single-season school record. She also scored 50 runs and stole 33 bases, which was tops in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) and in the top ten in NCAA Division III.
In addition, Johnson was just as strong defensively. She didn't make a single error in 89 chances, and her speed allowed her to cover tremendous ground in centerfield, regularly ranging far into the gaps to track down balls, several coming via diving catches.
Johnson was a key part of Geneva's squad that captured its first PAC Championship since 2012. The Golden Tornadoes finished the season 36-5 overall, which included a 17-game winning streak midway through the season that broke the school record.
