MCKEESPORT, Pa. – The Geneva College men's and women's golf teams opened up play this spring with a match against Carlow at the Youghiogheny Country Club on Saturday afternoon. The women earned a convincing 403 to 472 win in their match, while the men narrowly lost their match 356 to 361.
For the women, freshman Sabienea Winston (Antigua/Antigua State) led the way with a 91. Sophomore Sarah Theus (Fleming, Isle, Fla./Fleming Isle) shot a 101, sophomore Hannah Therrell (Barrigada, Guam/Academy of Our Lady of Guam) carded a 105, and sophomore Anna Kaminski (Middleville, Mich./Thornapple Kellogg) rounded out the top four with a 106.
For the men, freshman Joshua Hido (Kent, Ohio/Theodore Roosevelt) led the way with an 86. Sophomore Jacob DeLisio (New Brighton, Pa./New Brighton) shot an 88, while freshman Michael DeMiere (Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) carded a 90. Freshman Timothy Ehko (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) and senior Mike Melewski (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) both shot a 97 for Geneva's fourth place finisher.
Both teams will be back in action on Monday, April 4, when the Golden Tornadoes host the Geneva College Invitational at Connoquenessing Country Club.
