LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sophomore centerfielder Molly Shelley was named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) First Team NCAA Division III All-Region selection, while junior Lexi Zanic was named a Second Team All-Region selection.
Shelley was one of the most dynamic players in the region, possessing a speed/power combination that is not often seen at the Division III level. She has stolen 44 bases this year while being caught just once, while batting .429 with 14 doubles, seven triples and six home runs. Her 58 runs scored this year are a program record, and she's on pace to far surpass the career stolen bases and runs record in program history. Shelley also provides excellent defense in centerfield.
Zanic was recently named the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Player of the Year for her performance this year where she is batting .411 with a .478 on-base percentage. She also stole 18 bases and was in the middle of many offensive rallies this year. Zanic is also one of the top defensive shortstops in the region.
The softball team begins play today at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) World Series down in Grapevine, Texas. This is the second straight season the Golden Tornadoes have qualified for the national tournament.
