GREENVILLE, S.C. – Three Geneva College softball players were named National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) All-Americans on Tuesday. Sophomore Molly Shelley was named a First Team All-American, while juniors McKenzie Rapp and Lexi Zanic were named Second Team All-Americans. Geneva tied for the most All-Americans of any team in the NCCAA.
The Golden Tornadoes just wrapped up another standout season that saw Geneva advance to its second straight NCCAA World Series while also surpassing 30 wins in back-to-back seasons, the second time in program history the softball team has achieved that milestone. Shelley, Rapp and Zanic were at the center of much of Geneva's success this year.
Shelley is halfway through what is becoming one of the best careers in program history. She broke the single season records this year for runs (61) and stolen bases (48), and she's well on her way to breaking the career records in both categories. For the year, Shelley hit .428 with 15 doubles, seven triples and six home runs, in addition to her 61 runs and 48 stolen bases, while being caught just one time. She also finished with 33 RBIs out of the leadoff position.
Rapp was Geneva's most effective pitcher this year, providing support both as a starter and a reliever. She finished the year with a 16-6 record, including a 2.44 ERA. She also added four saves and is now tied for the career program record with 15 career saves.
Zanic was named the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Player of the Year for her play this season, providing Geneva with excellent defense up the middle at the shortstop position. She finished the year with a .416 batting average, as well as a .491 on-base percentage. She totaled nine extra-base hits, scoring 46 runs, driving in 36 RBIs and adding 18 stolen bases.
