YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – On Monday, sophomore Madison Sharek picked right where she left off after a standout freshman campaign by putting together a very strong opening round at the Youngstown State Kickoff, hosted at the Mill Creek Park Golf Course. She broke 80 by carding a 79, which placed her in sixth place, behind only Division I golfers from YSU. Sharek was the only Golden Tornado competing at the event.
Sharek was steady throughout the round in shooting seven over, never shooting anything worse than a bogey on a hole while totaling eleven pars. She was two strokes ahead of the nearest Division III golfer, which included some of the top golfers in the Presidents' Athletic Conference among the 34 at the kickoff. Her score is the fourth lowest in program history, with Sharek also holding the first (76) and third (78) best scores in program history.
Sharek and the rest of the women's team will be back in action this Saturday at the Thiel Invitational, hosted at Avalon at Buhl. The first golfers are slated to tee off at 1:00 p.m.
