GREENVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore
Madison Sharek continued her red-hot start to the women's golf season on Saturday afternoon, matching her own program record at the Thiel Fall Invitational by carding a 76. That score was tied for the best of any player participating in the invite, giving her a share of the victory. It matches her mark set last September at the Bethany Invitational.
Sharek opened the round on the back nine, where she birdied three of her first six holes. She finished at two over par on the back nine before making the turn to the front, notching five pars after that. Her score of 76 was far and away the top mark for the GTs, an impressive follow-up to the 79 she shot on Monday at YSU.
Junior
Sydney Peasley and freshman
Onika Alonzi were neck-and-neck for the entire round in their battle to be Geneva's second-place finisher. Peasley wound up shooting a 99, recording one birdie on the day, while Alonzi finished just behind her with a 100. Junior
Jayme Flock was the only other competitor for Geneva at the Invitational.
The women will have to wait over a week to play again with their next match not scheduled until September 15
th. They will head to Latrobe Country Club that day to participate in the Saint Vincent Invitational.
