Geneva Hires Morrison as Head Women’s Soccer Coach

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College Athletics Department has hired Kelsey Morrison to become the next head women's soccer coach for the Golden Tornadoes.  Morrison was most recently the head assistant women's soccer coach at Division I Nicholls State in Thibodaux, Louisiana.

Morrison will be taking the reins from interim Head Coach Doug Miller, who filled in capably for the spring 2021 season after 13-year Head Coach Linda Sumner stepped down in January to pursue other opportunities.  Sumner's 89 career victories are the most in program history.

Morrison was at Nicholls State for one season where she oversaw film analysis, team logistics and assisted in daily training sessions.  Prior to that, she was at the University of Valley Forge in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, for two years where she was the assistant before taking over as the associate head coach.  While there she helped the program break statistical records in both regular season wins and goals scored during the 2018 season.  Additionally, she worked administratively within the program to handle schedules, game day management, game contracts, as well as serving as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) advisor.

"I would like to thank the entire search committee and Director of Athletics Van Zanic for the opportunity to serve in this head coaching role at Geneva," says Morrison.  "The women's soccer program is in a very exciting time with incredible potential to be successful in the PAC and create substantial strides forward.  I look forward to coming in and reinvigorating the program identity as being excellent in character as well as excellent in sport from a mission-driven perspective."

A native of Maryland, Morrison competed on the women's soccer team all four years as an undergraduate at Valley Forge, receiving numerous accolades, including first team all-conference honors.  She still holds the career goal-scoring record for the program.

Morrison was also active at Valley Forge with the Special Olympics and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes during her time both as a player, and as a coach.  She graduated from Valley Forge with a Bachelor of Social Work along with a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership.
