Foster Wins Weekly Award After Stellar Opening Weekend

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Freshman Natalie Foster has been attending college classes for just over one week, and she already has an award to add to her resume. The Golden Tornadoes' starting goalkeeper was named the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Newcomer of the Week on Monday afternoon, following a couple of impressive performances in net on Friday and Saturday.

In her collegiate debut against Juniata on Friday, Foster recorded her first career shutout, keeping the Eagles off the board to allow Geneva to come away with a season-opening win, 1-0. She made three saves in the victory, leading the charge as the women got their first season-opening win in two years.

The GTs returned home for their second match in less than 24 hours on Saturday, battling to a 0-0 draw with Baldwin Wallace, a team that had beaten the Golden Tornadoes in all three of their matches over the past four years. Foster played an integral role in the women getting the result, making eight saves, including one on a last-minute shot that would have given the Yellow Jackets the lead and almost certainly the win. Outside of the stat sheet, Foster corralled many balls that were passed into the box over the course of the weekend, keeping the opposition from scoring opportunities in a way that didn't show up in the box score.

The two scoreless results for Geneva's defense represent the first time since 2010 that the Golden Tornadoes have begun a season with consecutive shutouts.

Foster and rest of the Geneva women will return to action tomorrow, September 2nd, with a home match against Alfred University at 4:00 p.m.
