Big Week Earns DeSanzo PAC Award

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Geneva women's tennis sophomore Chloe DeSanzo has been red-hot since starting the season back in late August, and she was rewarded for last week's performance on Monday by being named the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) women's tennis Player of the Week. She helped the Golden Tornadoes to a 2-0 record last week, winning all four of her matches over the course of the two contests.

DeSanzo opened the week with a dominant performance at Division II Ursuline College, getting wins in both doubles and singles play. She and her partner, senior Lauren Estes, took their match in No. 1 doubles, 6-1, before DeSanzo swept Ursuline's best player in No. 1 singles action, 6-0, 6-0. She then followed up that performance with two more victories against PAC-opponent Westminster, winning her match in the top doubles flight, 6-3, and nearly sweeping the Titan's No. 1 in singles play, 6-1, 6-1. The GTs' win over Westminster was their first since 1998, a streak that spanned 18 matches.

Since the beginning of this season, DeSanzo has won her first six singles matches, remaining undefeated in singles play. She has nine consecutive singles victories dating back to last season.

Women's tennis takes on Allegheny tonight in what ought to be a very tough matchup against a good Gators squad. That match is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
