Barry Emge finished his playing career in 1987 as one of the top wide receivers in program history.  He finished his standout career with 130 receptions, 30 more than any other receiver up to that point in program history. He also totaled 1,314 receiving yards, third-most in program history at that time.  His 1987 season, which helped the Golden Tornadoes advance to the NAIA national semifinals, broke single-season records, finishing with 62 catches for 575 yards.
