Melvin played a key role in Geneva’s three conference championship teams in the late 90’s. Finishing his career as Geneva’s second all-time leading rusher with 3,809 yards, he still holds the single-season record with 1,759 yards rushing. Melvin was a three-time all-conference performer and twice named NAIA all-american.

Melvin helped Geneva to three conference championships. In 1998, Geneva was ranked #1 in the country and their punishing running game was the reason. Melvin scored 254 points behind the, in his words, "Hall Of Fame" offensive line of Kevin Murray, Chuck Burns, Dave Petras, Josh Kisling, Dave Stahurski, John Stevens, Ben Krugh, Scott Dobson, Harry Romeigh, Jeff Peterson and full back Leif Ellis.
